Violins
Günther Hellwig listed four violins in his catalogue. After having withdrawn one of them for stylistic and dating reasons we are pleased to add another hithertoe unknown isntrument "for compensation", one that can be safely attributedto Tielke. All four instruments are surprisingly uniform in style with similar outlines, similar archings, etc. They differ, however, in their heads. In addition to those three depicted above, there is a lion's head.
A good number of instruments of north German origin appears to come form the Tielke shop at first sight. All of them have lion's heads, however, a feature not sufficient for an attribution to Tielke. In our book we will discuss more detailed criteria.
